What is Crigence n' Friends?

Welcome to the official Crigence n' Friends website.

Here we upload slightly higher-than-average quality, humor-focused live commentary game playthroughs (Also known as "lets plays") that feature the luxuriant, vulgar Crigence and the fainéant, bucolic GWAG.

We add intelligently crafted post-production "Editing jokes" and beautifully voiced, animated and character-filled "Skits" to make our live commentary game playthroughs exceed that of the competition. For this task, we usually use the electronic interactive media (Video game) known as
Garry's Mod (GARE-ee's mŏd), popularly abbreviated as G-mod.

Subscribe and you will receive streamed displays of moving visual media (Also known as "videos") in your inbox on a randomly assigned Saturday!

There are multiple reasons to use CnF.com to browse our catalog. The first being that our website is far more stylized and focused then the YouTube channel ever could be. The second being that our website has some quality-of-life features that YouTube somehow lacks, namely being able to see how much time a series will take for you to watch before jumping into it, and less reliance on the search function.

However, if you're browsing CnF.com on mobile? Oh yeah, just use YouTube... For now.

Why should I use CnF.com instead of just YouTube?

Before we answer that:  Remember that Crigence n' Friends is a passion project, so the software we use may not be the best software for you, even if it works just fine for our purposes. That said, here's our full list (In order of importance):

*VSDC Video Editor [Self-explanatory], *GIMP [Image editor], *OBS Studio [Screen recorder], *Audacity [Audio editor]. *LibreOffice [Office programs]. *Topaz Video Enhance AI [AI video upscaler]. ~Crigence

What software do you use?

At least in my experience: I always found the funnest part of making Crigence n' Friends videos to be recording the videos themselves. Just letting go of all sense of care and having fun with friends for a few minutes is always gonna be a fun time.

A few aspects I don't like, however, is the animating. I use Garry's Mod as an animation tool, and it just barely gets the job done. Publishing the content isn't too fun, either, as it can sometimes take days to upload certain videos. ~Crigence

What are your favorite/least favorite parts about content creation?

Depends on what you're using. If you're using assets from the Asset Browser? All you gotta do is credit CnF, then you can go nuts, even if you're using them commercially. Just be careful which ones you use, as not ALL of them are owned by us!
As for the videos themselves, it's a little more strict: As long as you credit us, you're free to redistribute, edit, mangle or do whatever with them, as long as it's not commercially. The only exception to this rule is if a portion of the profits goes to us. It may seem greedy, but I'm just not comfortable with people making money off of (What may be) 95% my work.

Can I use stuff from Crigence n' Friends in my videos?

Yeah, I know, the concept of let's plays of all things taking 2 months to make may seem ridiculous, but here's a list of good reasons why it takes so long:
*A lot of the Retard-eers/main crew are still in school, which limits the time we have for filming/editing *Sometimes, games just don't play nice with the CnG format, and the footage has to be scrapped entirely. *CnG videos have a lot of care and effort put into them, so I couldn't finish them in 1 day, even if I wanted to. *I personally have painfully slow internet. One particular video even took 2 weeks to upload! ~Crigence

Why does it take so long for videos to come out?

To be blunt: The basic concept of editing jokes was "borrowed" from VanossGaming's occasional funny on-screen popups -- Or at least they were back in Episode 1, when editing jokes were just an edited picture of the Fonz popping up as GWAG goes "Ayyyyyyyyyyyyhh-"

However, I believe CnG's editing jokes have evolved far past any editing joke on VanossGaming and I'd argue that our editing style has become rather unique to CnG.

What is with the editing jokes? Where'd they come from?

Currently, the most direct way to support Crigence n' Friends is by purchasing games and gifting them to the Retard-eer's on Steam. Assuming the game would make for a good episode: This practically guarantee's your game will be featured in a video.

However: More traditional donation methods will, hopefully, be available soon. ~Crigence

How can I support the project financially?

Honestly, I'm not 100% sure, but I think I've pieced a answer together after looking at my back catalog and dusting off my foggy memory: The skits began more-or-less at the same time CnF did, during the "Just Crigence" era of the YouTube channel (CnF circa-Crigence VS. RNG), and were initially mere bonus content that I uploaded to my personal channel. However, eventually, we actually found it hard to come up with interesting skit concepts. Then, I suddenly had the idea of combing the skits with the content itself. Everything just sort of snowballed from there into what we have today. ~Crigence

Where did the idea for the CnF skit universe come from, and why is it here?

7

The in-universe versions of the Retard-eers, in true CnF fashion, are meant to be exaggerated versions of the real deals, or at least how they act on-camera.

They're meant to walk a fine line between amplifying our personalities enough so that they're genuinely interesting and entertaining characters, but not making them so ridiculous as to make them unrealistic. I think we thread that needle well. ~Crigence

What's up with the CnF skit universe version of the Retard-eers?

8

Creating the skits is honestly quite a fluid process for me. An idea for a skit usually pops into my mind mid-editng process (If that don't work, I just force one out). After that, I start writing down my idea in Notepad. I choose Notepad over a fuller document format because to me, the simplicity allows for more focus, if at the cost of prettiness. Then, it's just a matter of making it a reality using Garry's Mod, and Stop Motion Helper v2. This is easily the most lengthy and painful part of the process and easiest to mess up. But after it's all over: We have a skit actually worth talking about!. ~Crigence
